When your car's processed at an Authorised Treatment Facility, the facility reports the destruction to the DVLA, who then issue a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). That certificate is what officially closes your responsibility for the car — no more tax, no more insurance, no more liability if it's ever linked to an incident. Ask for yours when you book, and we'll make sure it's issued.
Check that whoever collects it is a genuine Authorised Treatment Facility, get written confirmation on the day of collection, and make sure your Certificate of Destruction arrives afterwards. If you ever need to prove a car was scrapped and you've misplaced the certificate, the DVLA can issue a confirmation letter (a V888 request) as a backup.
Yes. A V5C makes the process quicker, but it isn't the only way to prove ownership. Bring photo ID and anything that connects you to the car — insurance documents, old MOT certificates, service history — and we'll talk you through the rest on the day. If your car is already SORN, you may not need a logbook at all.
